CarPlay support for Dolby Atmos

The ease with which we can receive connected entertainment on our smartphones, such as music, movies and gaming, has led us to expect a level of entertainment access wherever we are. This is why we have been collaborating across the car ecosystem from creators to car manufacturers so that people can experience music created, delivered, and played back in Dolby Atmos — exactly as the artist intended — even while on the go.

However, we also know that mobile phones continue to play a large role in people’s lives for accessing their favorite entertainment and in-car entertainment is no exception. Making the transition from mobile entertainment to in-car entertainment seamless is more important than ever to give consumers a consistent audio experience.

Dolby is continuing to partner across our ecosystem of devices, services, and content to make it easier to seamlessly transition people from experiencing their favorite entertainment in Dolby Atmos on their phones to their cars. Enabling consumers to stream content from their phones gives wider access to Dolby Atmos content – something previously limited to services integrated directly in the car.

There are two ways that you can partner with us to bring the Dolby Atmos CarPlay

experience to your consumers: in house or working with an integration partner:

  1. For car manufacturers that want to build the integration in-house, they must integrate both support for the latest Dolby Atmos product update*1 and Spatial Audio with support forDolby Atmos in CarPlay*2 in order to enable this experience for consumers.
  2. For some car manufacturers, there can be advantages to partnering with companies like Cinemo who have a track record of integrating Dolby Atmos and take advantage of the CarPlay option quickly and efficiently.
