  • Dolby Atmos playback capability is integrated directly into BMW’s vehicle infotainment architecture and paired with premium audio hardware systems from BMW’s audio partners. The integration is tuned specifically for each vehicle to deliver an optimal immersive listening experience consistent with BMW’s sound design philosophy. 
Is a premium audio upgrade required? 
  • Yes. Dolby Atmos is available on BMW vehicles equipped with compatible premium audio systems such as Bowers & Wilkins or Harman Kardon. 
Will Dolby Atmos be enabled across BMW vehicles? 
  • Dolby Atmos availability depends on vehicle platform, model, and audio system configuration.

  • This is a global rollout – announcements will follow as cars / models are available or become available and in specific countries and regions. 
How can consumers experience Dolby Atmos in BMW vehicles? 

Consumers can experience Dolby Atmos:

  • additional apps available in the BMW ConnectedDrive store

Was the vehicle acoustics specifically tuned for Dolby Atmos? 
  • Yes. Dolby worked closely with BMW and its audio partners to integrate Dolby Atmos into the vehicle hardware and software platform and to tune each vehicle for an optimal immersive listening experience. 
Will Dolby Atmos also control other audio features in the cars? 
  • Yes. There are some curated welcome-, introduction- and ambiences pieces that are mixed and played in Dolby Atmos inside BMW vehicles, noticeable by the Dolby Atmos branding.
  • Dolby Atmos does not control audio safety alerts. 
What services will be available? 
  • BMW 7series and BMW iX3 are currently the first models of the BMW family to have several streaming services offered via BMW ConnectedDrive Store. The Dolby Atmos experience will be enabled with selected streaming partners. May require an active subscription to supported third‑party music streaming services. 
Can you connect your Dolby Atmos-enabled smartphone to BMW to get the Atmos experience?  
  • Yes, Dolby Atmos will be available via Apple CarPlay 
Can Dolby Atmos be used for other use-cases than music listening?
