Dynamic Range
Surround channels can enhance the sense of depth and space over conventional stereo, adding a new sonic dimension and fully immersing the player in the experience of the game. A game player is already immersed in a fully enveloping world, and has the ability to directly interact with and often control the environment.
Dolby Atmos Drifts into Arcade Racing
Hear from Michael O'Kane of Level 91 Entertainment and David Baxter of Boom Clap Play, David Baxter, about Dolby Atmos in their release, Inertial Drift. Inertial Drift is a dual stick arcade style racer inspired by classic drifting games. The audio goal was to reinforce and enhance the stylised visual aesthetics and gameplay.
Central Channel Usage
In a stereo program, there is only one way to obtain a centrally placed sound image: mix the signal equally to the Left and Right channels. In a multichannel system, there are three ways to obtain this sound image:
- Create a phantom center just as with stereo
- Use the Center channel alone
- Use all three front channels equally or in varied proportion
