By adding integrated support for Dolby Atmos in mobile games, the Audiokinetic and Dolby partnership continues to make life easier for game developers while creating more immersive gameplay for gamers. In 2023, Audiokinetic and Dolby announced that they were working to create a deeper integration of Dolby Atmos into the Wwise pipeline, streamlining workflows. As a result, Wwise 2024.1 no longer requires developers to use the separate Dolby Atmos for Mobile Games plug-ins. This functionality is now integrated directly into Wwise and certified by Dolby through a full suite of tests to verify compliance with Dolby Atmos presentations.

To enable spatial audio on Dolby Atmos enabled Android phones, double click on “System” (under “Audio Devices” -> “Default Work Unit”). This will open the System Audio Device properties window. Then under “3D Audio”, check the “Allow” checkbox.

Android phones which support Dolby Atmos will then render sounds routed to the main mix using Dolby Atmos, placing the sound all around the listener for a more immersive gameplay experience.
