Discover the Dolby difference

Enhancing the quality of experience with Dolby Vision. Dolby Vision offers the most effective and accurate way to create HDR content.

Dolby Vision empowers the visual creatives to add greater depth, incredible contrast, and a wider range of colors than ever before. Creators are able to craft their picture with a multitude of shades of light and color.

In the consumer electronics world, HDR TV sets present a wide range of imaging capabilities according to the display technology and the imaging processing used… Each TV model will have its own unique way to handle an HDR picture resulting in an inconsistent consumer viewing experience. Dolby Vision provides the TV with all the information needed to display a picture as close as possible to the one created by professionals. All Dolby Vision certified TVs interpret this information and guide the mapping of the content based on the specific capability of the display in a predictable and consistent way. Scene-by-scene, dynamic metadata allows Dolby Vision to optimize the experience across different use cases such as movies, TV shows or live sports.

For the consumer, the difference is immediately obvious. Especially on the growing range of affordable, mainstream Dolby Vision TVs available in the market - sharper contrast, greater depth, ultiravivid colors and richer details draw them deeper into the story.

In this demo, you can clearly see the difference between a Dolby Vision experience (Left) and generic HDR experience (HDR10 or HLG to the right). This demo uses the same mainstream TV model and the same source content but the content is encoded in two different formats.   The visible differences are the result of the interpretation of the Dolby Vision metadata by the TV on the left, whereas the TV on the right is forced to manage the display on its own without sufficient information to help guide the process.

Easily distribute your service in Dolby

Dolby Vision brings an experiential benefit for consumers. For service providers, it’s a simple process to launch a live service, whether the content is natively produced in HDR or requires an up-conversion. The emission encoder will take care of creating the metadata that will be recognized by the TV.

For VOD type content, when the post-production is done in Dolby Vision, the encoding and distribution process is using the information from the color grading step to derive an SDR version.
